There is so much choice for incontinence care – where do I start?
We agree, the choice of incontinence products can be quite bewildering! If you use our guide above, it will direct you to the range of products which are available for your needs. If you think you need more guidance and advice as to whether pants or pads, or disposables or washable might suit you better, you can drop us a line with your query, or give us a call. Arelle specialises in finding the right product for your needs – so a two way conversation is the best way to achieve this.
If I choose pads for my incontinence – how many pads should I be using?
It really will differ from person to person, but a rough guide is 6 – 8 pads in 24 hours. If you need to use more than this, you probably need to increase the absorbency of your incontinence product.
Should I use a different pad at night?
Because you are unlikely to change your pad at night, a more absorbent pad can be really helpful. And you might think about using a bed pad as well, for extra confidence and security.
Why do I need stretch pants as well as pads or pull up pants?
Stretch pants really help the incontinence pad or pants fit more comfortably and they also improve the performance of the pad or pull ups. If you improve the efficiency of the pad or pull ups, you will use fewer of them.
Do washable incontinence care products suit everyone?
The current range of Arelle washable pants is best suited to people with light to moderate incontinence. The integral pad is stitched into the pants, feeling comfortable and (some people say) more dignified than wearing a disposable pad or pants, as it feels like you’re a wearing ‘normal’ underwear. And of course they are much more environmentally friendly than disposable products and in the long term, far more economical. They can be machine or handwashed – quality washable incontinence pants should have a lifespan of 100 washes.
What’s different about the range of incontinence care products you stock?
We focus on supplying high quality products that really work. We know you want products that absorb quickly, don’t leak and keep you dry and comfortable. We also only stock products which meet high environmental standards – such as those produced by Abena and of course our Eco range.
What’s the difference between pull-ups and all in one incontinence pads?
Pull ups are easy to put on (they ‘pull up’!) and are soft, comfortable and breathable. They look more like ‘normal’ underwear. All in one pads have a flexible side fastening for a better fit and a wider range of sizes – and are worn with stretch pants to improve their performance.
Do you cater for larger sizes?
Absolutely. Our washable incontinence briefs go up to size XXXL, with pull ups and all in one pants to size XXL, and our stretch pants up to 5XL. If you are looking for pads in larger sizes, we stock Abri-San Premium up to XXL.
Do men need different incontinence products to women?
While many of our products are unisex, we also offer some products specifically for men. Our washable pants for men, for example, have a fly opening, and we also offer stretch pants which have a better fit for men. In our disposable range, we offer pull-ups for men, as well as a shaped pad for men. Just ask us if you need more advice on this.
What if I can’t see what I need?
We don’t always list our full range in the catalogue, so we really recommend you check our website for our most up to date collection of products. If you still can’t find what you require, do call us. We’ll be happy to help and it’s very likely we can source what you need.
Can I try before I buy?
Yes, we do offer samples of some disposable products, but we like to ensure we are sending the right product for you – so give us a call or fill in our free sample request form and we will discuss your needs.
Can I get incontinence pads on the NHS?
It very much depends on the policy in the area where you live. Some health authorities might only offer products to people with severe or long-term incontinence or limit you to a certain number of products a day. We suggest you call your GP surgery to find out more.
Is VAT charged on your incontinence products?
If a product is made specifically for people affected by incontinence, you will not be charged VAT. There is a VAT declaration you will need to make (either on the website or on an order form)– but you only need to do this once. We can advise further if you get in touch.
Do you ever do special offers on your incontinence products?
Yes we do! The best way to keep up to date is to sign up to the Arelle e-newsletter which is sent out just once a month. On signing up you will automatically receive a 10% discount code, with further offers throughout the year.
What if I’m not happy with a product I order?
If a product doesn’t meet your expectations, so tell us so we know. We will replace it or give you a full refund within 14 days or receipt for any unused products in their original packaging. For hygiene reasons we cannot accept opened packs of disposable products. But in case of any query, please get in touch. Providing you with the right product is our goal.
Where else can I get help and support for incontinence?
While we can advise you about products, we do not give medical advice. Bladder Health UK and the Bladder and Bowel Community specialise in giving discreet advice and support, and will certainly make you feel that you don’t have to deal with this on your own. Depending on where you live, your GP surgery may be able to refer you to an NHS Continence Service – a team of nurses, physiotherapists and advisors who can offer support, assessments, treatment and advice to individuals over 18 years of age who have bladder and or bowel problems.
